Anthropomorphism

How many of you have actually been disappointed or angry with your dog for not understanding that it needs to stay out when it is dirty? By expecting your dog to figure out itself that it should not come inside when it is dirty, you are anthropomorphizing your dog.  Anthropomorphism means the idea that an animal or an object has the feelings or characteristics like those of a human being. In short, you are trying to humanize the dog which actually causes a lot of problems.
When owners give dog human characteristic and expect it to live up to their expectation, they give birth to an unsound dog whereas in reality only 1% of the dogs are genetically unsound.  For example, when a new puppy is brought home, the dog owner expects the residential dog to happily accept its new “sibling” as well as share its bed and food with it. The owner does not understand that dogs are not that understanding and that s/he is actually disrupting the pack structure. This gives rise to jealousy and rivalry which is a major problem.
This is good example of lack of knowledge in the dog owner about the pack structure, body language and voice control. When your dog responds genially to your appellations such as “my darling”, “my little one” etc, it is not because it understands what you say. Dogs react to external stimuli such as your body language, tone of voice and noises like whistles.
It is important for all dog-owners and dog-lovers to understand that dogs belong to an entirely different species. They don’t think, walk, talk or eat like humans. Neither do they posses emotions like humans do. This does not mean that you do not love your dogs. Love them, but do not expect them to reciprocate our love as we know it. However, you can expect them to respect you as a pack leader if you have established yourself as one.
