The Five Cs
What qualities should a good dog trainer possess?
The qualities which are imperative in order to be a good canine trainer can be summarized into what is called “the five Cs”. They are:
Consistency
In the duration of the training the trainer should remain consistent: s/he shouldn’t say “No” to their dog today and “Yes” tomorrow. For example, don’t allow your dog to come into one part of the house today and expect it to stay out tomorrow. Be fair to your pet.
Constancy
Since training is an ongoing process, it is important for the trainer to be constant in everything s/he does for the rest of his/her dog’s life.
Clarity
The command of the trainer should be clear and comprehendible for the dog to understand.
Confidence
The trainer should have faith in both him/herself and their dog. Confidence should be manifested in everything the trainers to convey that whatever is being done is for the benefit of both the trainer and their dog.
Control
When all the four Cs above have been accomplished, the trainer will automatically have control over their dog.
