Things To Be Considered While Adopting New Puppy For Home

Things to consider while bringing new puppy home

Not only the children but we adult too get excited when bringing new puppy to our home. However there are many problem faced by Nepalese dog owner while owing a new dog or puppy. Some of them are :

  1. Choosing a dog or puppy

In adding a new family member in your home, you have to be very wise while choosing a puppy whether it is a pure breed or mixed breed. Ask yourself a lot of questions: what to expect from dog? Can I take a full responsibility for the dog? What are your must have( active, quiet low grooming maintenance) and don’t have( harder to train, vocal, need frequent grooming, some breed predisposition diseases)So it would be prudent to do some research regarding it in web or read a few book on dog  raising. As in Nepalese contest, it is very difficult to take care of puppies younger in age (6-8 weeks)to raise and save from deadly and highly infectious diseases like Parvo , Corona.

  1. feeding of a puppy

Like all living things, the dog has certain nutritional requirement. And to keep healthy dog, dog must be properly fed at regular interval of time. It is important to feed the puppy a balanced diet which contains the entire essential nutrient which he needs. Puppies need at least four meals a day and clean water 24 hours a day. Every puppy is different from its counterpart in their nutritional need. The food suitable one puppy may not be suitable other puppy. So the owner should look carefully in their feeding type and pattern. Similarly in the course of weaning a puppy (which is generally 45 days post- parturition) , the puppy is  introduced to the new food. If the new food doesn’t suit a puppy, it may suffer from health problem like diarrhea and vomiting. The protein, fat, carbohydrate, mineral, vitamin for your dog’s need can be given in one of two ways. You can shop for separate edible food from the market(like rice, milk, yoghurt, meat, carrot, egg)prepare mix and cook them or you can use high quality ready to serve dog food found in pet shop shelves. However in Nepal it is seen in practical experience that puppy shows good result in feeding the cereal product ( cerelac –Nestle)product prepared for human infant  as it is tasty and easy to digest.

  1. Training for a puppy

Now-a days it is becoming necessity and fad to train a dog as it would make your job and life style easier in future while the puppy grow whether it is toilet training or obedience training.

  1. Shopping

While raising a puppy in well mannered and systemized way, a lot of things are required for the puppy like bedding, toys collars leashes, halter, dog coat, crates and other accessories. So you have to spend some money on it .However due to the flourishing pet business in Nepal and competitive market, different brand of these accessories are available in affordable price.

    5) Exercise

Like human, dog also need physical exertion and mental exercise for their well being as this will keep them healthy and have few health problems while grown older. Puppies that are 2 month old need 5 to 7 session of exercise or playtime. Each session is for 2 to 3 minute. 4 to 6 month puppy need more exercise. You can let your puppy play till it is tired.
